Hezbollah chief says fight for Jerusalem is now top priority

Lebanese Hezbollah will work with its allies to create a strategy “in the field” to confront Israel, the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, said, calling again for a third Palestinian intifada (uprising), during a rally in Beirut on Monday.

Today the axis of resistance, including Hezbollah, will return as its most important priority ... Jerusalem and Palestine and the Palestinian people and the Palestinian resistance in all its factions,” Nasrallah said, as cited by Reuters.

Speaking by video-link at a rally attended by tens of thousands in Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut, Nasrallah vowed that the struggle for Jerusalem and an independent Palestine is now Hezbollah’s top priority.

According to Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s regional victories – the Iran-backed group played a key role in ground operations against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in Syria – will allow it to renew its focus on Palestine.

He also called on Hezbollah and its allies to form a united strategy "in the field" to confront Israel, and advocated for third Palestinian intifada to overturn US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Demonstrators marched through the group’s Beirut stronghold carrying banners reading "Jerusalem, Eternal Capital of Palestine" and "Jerusalem is Ours".

Last week, President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and said he would move the US embassy there, sparking fury and condemnation from Arab states as well as from Washington’s European allies.

The Beirut rally took place on the day after a violent protest outside the Lebanon’s US Embassy.
Last week, Nasrallah called for an “Islamic summit that would declare Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Palestine.”

"We support the call for a new Palestinian intifada and escalating the resistance which is the biggest, most important and gravest response to the American decision," he added, as quoted by Lebanon’s Naharnet TV.

Israel has waged two wars against Hezbollah, with the most recent conflict, in 2006, killing more than a thousand Lebanese civilians. Hezbollah convoys inside Syria have also been frequent targets of Israeli airstrikes.

Putin meets Erdogan in Turkey: High hopes for Syria – condemnation for Trump

President Erdogan stated that President Putin shares his views over Washington’s move against Palestine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, after what has been a whirlwind day for the Russian President. Earlier he met with Persident al-Assad in Syria and President el-Sisi in Egypt.

During the press conference, both Putin and Erdogan spoke of their positive feelings regarding a sharp increase in bilateral trade between the two nations.

Both leaders also praised the recovery of Turkey’s tourist industry which is heavily reliant on Russians.

Russia’s bilateral relations with Turkey, include an agreement whereby Russian experts will construct what will be Turkey’s first ever nuclear power plant. Both leaders expressed their positive views on this while President Putin also spoke highly of the progress made on the Turk Strem gas pipeline which will deliver Russian natural gas to both Turkey and Europe.

Erdogan said that the US “…provoked indignation among both Muslims, Christians and Jews as well.

He continued, saying,

This reckless move created the situation which we see today….Israeli troops killed four Palestinians and currently around three thousand Palestinians have been injured”.

Erdogan went on to accuse Israel of “furling the conflict” and said that Palestinians “…cannot ignore these crimes–these atrocities”.

The Turkish President also expressed hope that tomorrow’s meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, to be held in Turkey will produce a “strong statement on that matter”.

Erdogan further stated,

Mr. Putin and I have a very similar approach to that matter (Palestine)…we will continue our contacts”.

The Russian President said of the US decision regarding Palestine,

(It) Is not helping to resolve the problem in the Middle East. Instead it destabilises a very complicated situation and can wipe out all positive developments on that track”.

Putin affirmed that only a mutually agreed upon solution regarding the status of Jerusalem/Al-Quds which is sanctioned by the United Nations will be acceptable to Russia. The fact that Erdogan associated his own strong position for Palestine with that of Russia, is an indication that Turkey, like Palestine and Syria, now views Russia as a respected power broker in the region.

Both Presidents thanked each other for efforts to resolve the Syrian conflict via the Astana format. They also expressed high hopes for the Syrian National Dialogue Congress to be held in Sochi next year.

It would appear that Russia and Turkey are close to resolving disputes regarding the status of Kurdish militants at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress. Russia has recently increased contacts with Kurdish groups in Syria, thus providing a moderating influence that Turkey may well ultimately deem to be acceptable.

While Turkey has lost trust in the US over a host of issues, including the Kurdish question in the region, it would appear that Ankara’s trust in Russia continues to build, as Russia seeks to find a mutually acceptable solution for all legitimate parties involved in the peace process.

Turkey and Jordan reconsidering relations with Israel

Turkey continues its relentless condemnation of the US and Israel.

On the 13th of December, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will host a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to discuss how to deal with Donald Trump’s universally condemned decision to recognise Jerusalem al-Quds as the Israeli capital.

Earlier today, Erdogan said that the United State “has become a partner in bloodshed” and that Turkey will never be bound by Trump’s declaration.

Meanwhile, traditional US ally Jordan and only the second Arab state to have diplomatic relations with Israel, has convened a special session of Parliament to review Amman’s relations with Tel Aviv.

Kiselyov: By a Stroke of Pen Trump Alienates All America’s Allies And Does a Disservice to Israel

Nasrallah: Trump’s Quds (Jerusalem) decision threatens to wipe out Palestine & Aqsa Mosque – ENG

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said US President Donald Trump's decision to formally recognise the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as Israel's capital, threatens to completely wipe out the Palestinian cause and any possibility of a Palestinian state.

Nasrallah also described Trump's announcement as a 'second Balfour Declaration', coming 100 years after the first, when Britain declared its aim to establish "a national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine.

The Hezbollah leader also said Trump's controversial decision poses a major danger to Muslim & Christian sanctities in the holy city, particularly the al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites.

Furthermore, Nasrallah said Trump's announcement shows his complete contempt and disregard for the will of the international community, and is an insult and attack on the feelings of hundreds of millions of Muslims and Christians around the world.
